After the cancellation of Star Trek, fans and professionals alike kept the dream alive through letter writing campaigns. Eventually, we got Star Trek: The Animated Series, which aired on Saturday mornings on NBC. These episodes were not dumbed down, either. They were written and produced by series veterans, and even featured the voices of William Shatner and other members of the original cast members.
