Not a spy trick! Michelle Yeoh’s Section 31 show is a “go”

The mysterious section of Starfleet is getting its own series! Often rumored, we can now finally confirm that the newest Trek show to grace the “airwaves” of CBS All Access will be known as Star Trek: Section 31, and will star Michelle Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou.

Yeoh’s character started out as the captain of U.S.S. Shenzhou, where Michael Burnham served as well. Capt. Georgiou eventually died and this version of Georgiou is actually the villainous Georgiou from the Mirror Universe, starting with the episode ”The Wolf Inside.”

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Trek boss Alex Kurtzman said that he hoped this new series would be Georgiou’s “Unforgiven,” a reference to the highly-praised Clint Eastwood western from 1992. Kurtzman said that the Section 31 show was actually Yeoh’s idea.

Discovery writers Erica Lippoldt and Bo Yeon Kim wrote the pilot and will serve as the show’s co-showrunners. Production will begin on May 4 in Mississauga, Ontario.

Section 31 has been a part of Trek lore since Deep Space Nine, starting with the episode “Inquisition” in Season 6. It was during Enterprise where Section 31 really hit its stride, as the spy organization was featured in four episodes. Section 31 played a prominent role in Star Trek Into Darkness as well.
