Remember a few months back we brought you an interview with documentary filmmaker David Zappone, who told us about his newest behind the scenes look at Star Trek? We have a new Voyager documentary update, this time from Star Trek star Garrett Wang.

In a video released just yesterday from the team at Virtual Trek Con, Wang announced that Zappone’s 445 Films will launch a crowd funding campaign on March 1. Fans who support the film during this campaign will be able to preorder the film, and can select some “cool rewards” for participating.

“You’ve showed your love for the DS9 documentary,” said Wang. “Now it’s time to show your love for Voyager. We deserve the love too!”

In his video message, Wang encouraged all fans to check out the official Voyager Documentary website, and to follow them on social media as well for updates.

Documentary title makes sense

If you do happen to visit the Voyager Documentary Facebook page, you’ll see the title of the film, which is A Long Way Home: the Star Trek Voyager Documentary. Since Zappone has been working on this project for almost two years now, it would be great if the title of the documentary is only a reference to the Voyager storyline, and not the length of time it will take until we get to see this new production.

A Long Way Home: the Star Trek Voyager Documentary is an appropriate title for this new production.

During a different video chat, which was a part of Virtual Trek Con, Zappone gave more details on the upcoming documentary. He shared that they were able to have excellent access to the stars, shows, and anything else they needed in the last Star Trek Cruise, which was where the bulk of the Voyager Documentary was filmed.

“We didn’t know what we were going to get,” said Zappone. “And it was the most hours that I ever worked consistently.”
